It's Monday! What are you Reading? 12/19/11

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: You know it's been a crazy week when I have to look back at the blog and GoodReads to even remember when I read last week. I finished the audiobook of Unwanteds by Lisa McMann. I'm well over halfway through The Scorpio Races by Maggie Steifvater. I just finished The Friendship Doll by Kirby Larson this afternoon. I enjoyed it all the way through and then cried at the very end when it all came together. It's a beautiful story. I loved reading The Nutcracker by Alison Jay to my students last week and will share with my own kiddos again this week. Here at home this weekend we read The Belly Book by Fran Manushkin with great illustrations by Dan Yaccarino (he's one of my faves, Hi, Dan!) I did go through a stack of Coretta Scott King award honors and winners last week but haven't updated them on GoodReads yet. I really liked Jimi: Sounds Like a Rainbow by Gary Golio.

Kellee Says: Didn't get through all of my planned books by this morning.  I've read 3 and have 1 left, but I will finish it by the end of the day today.  I finished Enclave by Ann Aguirre which is an interesting post-apocalyptic novel, My Life Undecided by Jessica Brody, a fun, unique contemporary novel and Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier, a mystery, time traveling novel.  I enjoyed all three of them and will be finishing Amplified by Tara Kelly today.  It sounds really fun also.  I was also able to finish another audiobook! I've come to realize that 5 disc audiobooks are perfect because they last about a week.  I finished Prom by Laurie Halse Anderson.  The audiobook was pretty good, but I didn't find this Anderson book as intriguing as her others. Still well done and fun, but not all that I wanted it to be.

Reviewed Last Week:
12 Things to Do Before You Crash and Burn

Also, we were featured on There's A Book's 12 Days of Christmas blog talking about:
How the Grinch Stole Christmas          Dash & Lily's Book of Dares

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I have three full bags of books in my car to read over the next two weeks. Thankfully two of the bags are picture books...but that does leave one big stack of novels in the third book. I would love to get through most of them but the reality of being home with two small kiddos means I probably won't get to every one. I am super excited to reread Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan to review for you this week. I realized I never reviewed it when I read it last year and this is a book that really deserves a review with that 5 heart stamp a the bottom. I'll be reading through lots of Coretta Scott King award or honor winners and I have a few books on my radar that I would like to read from the Nerdy Book Club and our most recent #titletalk. My plan is to start off the week right by visiting the library first thing!

Kellee Says: Winter Break!!!!! So, #bookaday is now in full swing.  I am not sure what I am going to read, but I know I am going to read a lot of whatever it is.  I am currently in Chattanooga with my parents and brother and I brought enough books to read at least one a day.  The books even got their own bag.  So, I cannot wait to update you next week on everything I have read.  (Let's hope I can keep it up!)
