On Sunday, we had family over to celebrate Little Bean's 3rd birthday. It was a great day for a party and afterwards we all walked over to watch the 4th of July parade. As the day wound down, I was faced with the true and present realization that it was my last day of summer vacation as I've known it for all of my life. My husband, a PE teacher, was planning what he was going to do to keep the kids busy while I was planning what I was going to wear for my first day at my new job. Last week, I accepted the position of Coordinator of Instructional Technology for my district. It's thrilling to know that I'll have the opportunity to make an impact on such a different level but I'm also super aware of how important it is that I do my best.

As I was getting things organized so I would be ready to go on Monday morning, my husband and I were talking about the party, the kids, my new job...and then he said, "You know, my mom said the building you work in is haunted."

Gulp. As if I wasn't scared enough.

This actually wasn't news to me. I'll be working in the same building as I did last year and I've heard people tell stories about the building being haunted. But, but, but but, I didn't know that it's listed on the Internet as one of the most haunted places in all of Illinois which my mother-in-law so kindly brought to my attention. That's a totally different level of haunted.

I'm too scared to Google it and see the list myself but as I was sitting in my basically empty, new office all by my lonesome yesterday, I realized it might not be a bad idea for some kind of happy-spirit type wall hanging to be the first thing I put up in my office. Seeing as I'm in total Teachers Write mode, I then started thinking about a story of a woman with Casper-like ghosty friends to keep her company in her fourth floor office as she endeavors into a new job. I always liked Casper the Friendly Ghost. With visions of friendly ghosts wandering the halls Hogwarts-style and the warm welcome I received from colleagues, it was actually a scare-free day. And I'm excited to go back today!

Do you have any ghost stories to tell? Maybe some friendly ghost stories?
I'd love to hear them!
