It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 11/05/12

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: Last week it was kind of a reading frenzy. I read The Infects, Dear Bully, and Personal Effects...and reviewed them. I've been listening to Eldest on audio, I started reading it about five years ago but never finished it (because it's incredibly looooong). So far I've listened to everything I had read before but I think I'll pass up where I was before soon. Such great fantasy writing by Christopher Paolini. I also started ready Audition and Subtraction and Please Write in This Book

Kellee Says: I have been on a roll of pretty darn good books lately and I really hope that it continues. First, I have to amend a past meme because I forgot to mention that I read Lulu and the Brontosaurus by Judith Viorst in late October and it is a wonderful little book with brilliant illustrations from the always wonderful Lane Smith. This week I finished 3 novels (which is better than expected as I am preparing for NCTE and had a crazy weekend). First, I finished Audition & Subtraction by Amy Fellner Dominy which is a music filled middle school drama book- LOVE! Then, I finished listening to The Frog Princess by E.D. Baker and I can definitely see why the series is so beloved. My library doesn't have book 2 on audio, so I am probably going to try to find it a different way. Finally, I finished Wolves of the Beyond: Lone Wolf by Kathryn Lasky which was given to me by a flabbergasted student who could not believe I had not read this or any Lasky book for that matter. I was pleasantly surprised, like I often am by epic animal fantasy books, by the world building and plot development and I can definitely see why he loves it. Looking forward to talking to him about it.

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I'll keep listening to Eldest this week...I think it'll last me at least this week and probably into next week. Then I'll have to upload audios onto my phone so I can listen to them on the way to and from NCTE! Woot! I plan to finish Audition and Subtraction and Please Write in This Book but I also have the new Gary D. Schmidt book, What Came From the Stars, that I'm super excited to read. AND, I want to reread Peace, Love and Baby Ducks so I can review it on Saturday and as a mentor text for the work-in-progress I am editing right now (my summer Teachers Write project!).

Kellee Says: I am going to begin this week with a mini-graphic novel readathon. I got a small pile from the library and some more from Netgalley (including The Year of the Beasts by Cecil Castellucci, My Boyfriend is a Monster #1-3 and a few more) so I think I am going to focus on them first. I am also starting a new audiobook and I decided to listen to Dark Life by Kat Falls. It is a dystopian that I have yet to read and I haven't read one in a long time - I feel that I am due for one. After that, I have a pile of books all in order to read (thanks to my wonderful sister) and we'll see how far I get.
