It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 05/21/12

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I have had the best #bookstacks in the last two weeks. It has been a long time since I have been able to sit down with a nice pile of picture books, but it worked out that last week and this week I was able to go to the library and then come home and read through my pile of books. My favorites from last week and this week were:
Emma Dilemma
Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons
I Spy Under the Sea
The Story of Snow
No Bears
Magritte's Marvelous Hat
The Story of Salt
Otherwise, I have been super busy like Kellee and have only finished one audiobook and one regular book. I listened to Passion by Lauren Kate on audio this week. I love this series about fallen angels. The last in the series just came out and I am eagerly waiting so I can finish up the series. I loved starting this after all the books were released so I could cruise through them! I have started Tim Tebow's Through My Eyes on audio, too. For my real book, I read The Lions of Little Rock by Kristin Levine. I loved it so much, it reminded me so much of Warriors Don't Cry by Melba Beals and Hound Dog True by Linda Urban. Great historical fiction.

Kellee Says: My personal life has completely taken over and reading has been pushed to the side a bit. Two weekends ago my dad was in town for the art festival in Lakeland so I spent the weekend with him. Then this weekend my sister-in-law got married AND my mom came into town. Also, at work I am planning for our Hurt Go Happy field trip last week. SO, as you can see, I am busier than I want to be, but with all wonderful things. That means that this week I got through only 1 novel and 1 picture book. I am in the middle of another book, but it is going quite slow.

The novel I read, The Queen of Water, was so good! Laura Resau met Maria Virginia Farinango and when she heard her story, Laura knew that she had to write a book about it and I am so glad she did! It reminds me of Sold by Patricia McCormick- if you haven't read either, you should definitely pick them up.  The picture book I read, I am Small (given to me by a wonderful friend :D) was so cute! It is about how no matter how small you are, you are always special for your parent.

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I will continue listening to Tim Tebow's memoir. It's very inspirational so far. I want to get back to reading The High Skies Adventures of Blue Jay the Pirate that I started a couple of weeks ago. I have so many great books to read it's not even funny. Today I got Froi of the Exiles from the library...again. I was in the middle of rereading in April when it came in for me before so now I can actually read it. Is it weird that sometimes it's hard to take time for a loooooong book even when I know I'm going to love it? So tricky. I will be reviewing From What I Remember by Stacy Kramer and Valerie Thomas this week and I love it so I'm hoping to reread that soon, too.

Totally random, but I also checked out The Outsiders the movie from the library today, too. I remember watching it after I read the book in junior high but I think it would be fun to watch again. Love the actors! I'm kind of getting into the mood to watch every John Hughes movie, too after thinking about From What I Remember so much lately...might be a great summer plan.

Kellee Says: I am reading Luminous by Dawn Metcalf right now and I am beginning to get into the story and am begin to understand the unique mythology within it. I also hope to get in Burnout by Adrienne Maria Vrettos and I'll Be There by Holly Greenberg Sloan.

I also have to mail off the Ginny Rorby books to our winners- congrats again!!!

  1. I've seen From What I Remember all over the place and it looks really good. Blood Red Road also looks pretty interesting.
