It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 5/7/12

Today’s TMT Blogiversary Blog Tour Stop is at Teacher Dance!

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: It was a mega crazy week with IRA on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I was surrounded by books and friends and it was like a kid on Christmas morning - completely wonderful - but it left little time for reading. While driving to and from downtown, however, I was able to listen to The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I love that book. So great. I want to watch the movie now! I am also almost done with The Big Splash by Jack Ferraiolo (who you'll hear from later this week). While doing some housework, I started listening to The Watch That Ends The Night by Allan Wolf, too.

Reading-wise, I am finally reading new stuff! I love it! I decided to not reread Night Circus. It's just too long right now and I have so many other things to try and read in the small time that I have free. I loved Marty McGuire Digs Worms by Kate Messner. I have wanted to make my own worm box for a while now...maybe, just maybe, I'll be brave enough now! I also got to read an early copy of Adam Gidwitz's next book In the Glass Grimmly. It is a lot of fun. Similar to A Tale Dark and Grimm but totally different stories. I snuck this in because I borrowed from a co-worker and need to give it back, so now I can read Fake Mustache

Kellee Says: This was a pretty good week for me- I am proud of myself.  I am still listening to A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore and even though I love children's lit so much, it has been great to be listening to a book that has adult humor- and it cracks me up!

As for reading, I read 4 novels and 1 graphic novel. Not bad. The graphic novel I read was Zebrafish by Sharon Emerson which was presented by Peter H. Reynolds who I love. The graphic novel was so unique and was quite an interesting story that'll find lots of love in my classroom.

As for the novels- first I read The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson (which I may have mentioned last week, but I finished in on Monday) which is such a smart book with great world building and characterization. Second, I finished Hero's Guide to Saving the Kingdom and you can check out the review to see what I thought (really liked it!).  Then, I finished The Berlin Boxing Club which is the epitome of "don't judge a book by its cover"- although it has boxing in it, it is not about boxing. I will definitely be blogging about the multi-dimensional book that I thought was so well done! Finally, I read Kick by Walter Dean Myers and Ross Workman.  I had no idea about this book when I started it, but I love how it was created- if you don't know how it was written, check out his About the Author on HarperCollins.

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I will finish up The Big Splash on my way to work today and then will go back to where I left off in The Watch That Ends The Night. That is a looooong book so I'm not sure I'll get to another audiobook this week. I'm so excited to laugh and read Fake Mustache and then I have a book from Candlewick about a bird pirate called The High-Skies Adventures of Blue Jay the Pirate by Scott Nash.  I've read a few pages already and it reminds me of Neversink but with pirates. I have so many other books on my TBR it's not even funny. I'm glad there are only a few weeks until summer and *hopefully* more time for reading!

Kellee Says: I will continue listening to A Dirty Job and I hope to finish it and then I don't know what audiobook I'll start. I am kind of in the same boat with my books. I have a pile that I know I am going to read, but I haven't decided which to pick up first. We'll see :)
