I finished reading A Writer’s Notebook and finished listening to How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe. I read more of Bee Fearless and started listening to Luck and Olives by Jenna Evans Welch.

This Week's Adventures:

I’ll continue to listen to Luck and Olives and continue reading Bee Fearless. I also got to go to a book signing with Maggie Smith and I have her new book You Could Make This Place Beautiful to read.

I’m really loving How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe  and am looking forward to listening to more and I’ve got some ideas floating around in my head as I’m reading Bee Fearless that is making me excited to keep reading too.

Last week I ended up listening to Elizabeth Gilbert’s book Big Magic. Honestly, I’ve lost count when it comes to how many times I’ve read that book. Even though I’ve read it multiple times, I always find something that feels new or that resonates differently each time.

This week I’ll be back at school and I’m going to get back to the revised edition of A Writer’s Notebook by Ralph Fletcher.

This week I listened to Forget Me Not by Ellie Terry and absolutely loved it. I’ll carry those characters with me for a long time. I also read Etched in Clay by Andrea Cheng and Sorceline by Sylvia Douyé, illustrated by Paola Antista, and translated by Tanya Gold. Both of these were recommended by students and I really enjoyed them. 

This Week's Adventures:

I have Turtles All the Way Down to listen to on audio and I have students who are devouring Jason Reynolds’ books and one recommended Look Both Ways. It’s one of his books I haven’t read yet so I’m planning to read it this week.

I listened to Scritch Scratch by Lindsay Currie and LOVED it! And then I also listened to Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch. I had already seen the movie on Netflix but a student really recommended I read the book. 

This Week's Adventures:

I’m on the lookout for a new audiobook and I received a copy of Unearthing Joy by Dr. Gholdy Muhammad this weekend so I’ll be reading that for sure this week.

I finished listening to Hands by Torrey Maldonado. I especially liked reading the notes at the end and hearing his intentions in terms of the topic and style for this book. I started listening to Scritch Scratch by Lindsay Currie — I love that it’s a Chicago story!

This Week's Adventures:

I’ll continue listening to Scritch Scratch and plan to finish this week. I’m still reading I Am Diosa and I am going to UIC’s Super Saturday this weekend and will hear Samira Ahmed speak so I’d like to read Hollow Fires this week.

Last week I finished reading The Big Leap and then I finished Promises of Gold by Jose Olivarez. It was so good. So good. I listened to some of Hands by Torrey Maldonado.

This Week's Adventures:

I’d like to finish listening to Hands and then my hold of The Body Keeps the Score just came in and I’m also reading I Am Diosa. I’m behind on my kidlit reading…something about getting through January and February in Chicago has meant more for-me adult texts.

I finished listening to Unplug and started listening to Hands by Torrey Maldonado. I love that he has a new book out! I also started reading Promises of Gold by Jose Olivarez and am so close to finishing The Big Leap.

This Week's Adventures:

I’ll be listening to Hands this week and I’ll finish The Big Leap and continue with Promises of Gold. 8th grade students turned in their Mock Caldecott essays and they are so great! I’m looking forward to reading the 6th grade essays that are due this week.

This week I zoned in on rereading The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks. I also listened to more of Unplug.

This Week's Adventures:

My plan is to finish my reread of The Big Leap this week and to listen to Torrey Maldonado’s new book Hands. I am in an empowerment phase with my reading after signing up for La Poderistas Book Club and discovering a book called La Diosa. This week I’m also attending an event at the Poetry Foundation in Chicago and I’m looking forward to hearing poets live and exploring their books.
