It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 09/10/12

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

This week we are celebrating Book Blogger Appreciation Week 2012! You can check out their website for more information! Our posts this week will be following the BBAW 2012 daily schedule. Monday is set aside to share the book bloggers we appreciate and what better way to do that than by having our regular Monday #IMWAYR meme. We appreciate you all so much!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I read The Secret of the Fortune Wookiee by Tom Angleberger! I loved it. Tom is just wise to be able to write the books in this series and make them seem so simple but yet so profound. There is nothing simple about writing from so many characters' perspectives. I commend him!
I also finished The Case of the Deadly Desperados on audio. I almost gave up after the first CD but I continued with it and was actually surprised by the ending. It's not my favorite book but the end bumped it up to a four-star book for me. I also listened to Fake Mustache on audio and have been working my way through the book in print as well. I'm taking my time with the book itself, marking it up like crazy. Such a fun way to read and I haven't read like this in a while so I'm loving it. You can read the first part of my discussion with Colby about Fake Mustache on his blog. I also read Guy Write! by Ralph Fletcher which is giving me more idea for how to channel Tom Angleberger as I work more on my MG novel.

Kellee Says: I am still getting used to reading and working, so I am still at only 1-2 novels a week, but I am proud of myself for finishing any at all. My goal this week is to definitely finish 2 and maybe a 3rd.
This week I finished the genre introductions with my students and I read John's Secret Dreams and Martin's Big Words by Donna Rappaport as well as Lon Po Po by Ed Young and parts of Shel Silverstein's Falling Up. I also reread The Dot by Peter H. Reynold in preparation for Dot Day (September 15th, though I'll be celebrating it with my kids on September 17th). Last, I read an Alex Rider short story called "Christmas at Gunpoint" which was released in the 10 year anniversary of Stormbreaker
The novel I read this week was Dolphin Sky by Ginny Rorby which was her first novel though I had never read it before. She has recently rereleased it as an e-book through Amazon and I loved it as much as her others. Again Ginny amazingly deals with animal and human issues brilliantly in a single book. I'll be reviewing it later for you.

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I'm looking forward to more listening and reading of Fake Mustache. I also have Horton Halfpott by Tom Angleberger to listen to after. We're reviewing The Fault In Our Stars on Thursday and I have the audio to listen to from the library so I'll listen to that. I picked up Bird and Squirrel by James Burks yesterday and am so excited to read that. I love every book I have read by him so I'm guessing I won't be disappointed. I'll also be reading My Mixed-Up Berry Blue Summer. I'm hoping for a great reading week and am really looking forward to these reads!

Kellee Says: I started two books on Friday because unfortunately I started one and then left my Kindle at school, so I started another Friday evening. So, I am currently reading Alligators Overhead by C. Lee McKenzie and Darkbeast by Morgan Keyes. If I finish both of those, I have a ton of books to choose from including some I got from the library that are due soon.
I am also listening to The Scorpio Races still because I had an unfortunate mishap on Wednesday when I had the wrong CD :( and since I am carpooling Tuesday and Thursday now, missing a day of listening really hurts my progress. I am enjoying it more now though I still want to get farther into it.

This Week's Reviews:
