The One Where It's A-OK to Reread in April 2014! #slice2014

On Tuesdays, I participate in the Slice of Life challenge at Two Writing Teachers. If you want to join in, you can link up at their Slice of Life Story Post on Tuesdays or you can head on over there to check out other people's stories. Back in 2012, I thought it would be great to take a break from reading new books and instead reread books I loved - and sometimes didn't love - before. For the most part, it's a chance to revisit books that I adore and to not feel all the pressure to keep reading new books. I used to never, never, never reread books. I owe any of my current rereading to finding the book The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. It's such a wonderful book and one that I finally was able to reread. Since then, I have noticed how valuable rereading actually is. Through revisiting a text I am familiar with, I've found that I am able to focus more on the author's craft and to really recognize what he or she has done to bring the story to life. I'm able to really let the words settle in and to notice what the author has done. Honestly, it's still crazy to me how much I love rereading because I really never did. For me, I truly realized the power of rereading by actually doing it. While I used to think I knew the story and didn't value reading it over again, now I completely understand how much there is to notice and love by rereading a story. If I thought I loved the characters and their story the first time, I find that I know them in a different way by reliving their stories with them the second or third time through.

In 2013, I reread some wonderful books that are on my list to reread again this year. It's hard to decide to reread and not include some of my all-time favorites on the list! And here we are in 2014 now! I'm keeping my list fairly short...which means it will hopefully be manageable. We'll see how I do!

My 2014 April Rereads:

A Crooked Kind of Perfect by Linda Urban
Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
Peace Love and Baby Ducks by Lauren Myracle
Wonder by RJ Palacio
The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

Are you thinking of rereading any books this month? Or maybe rereading some of your favorite poems? Please share your favorite books that you love to read again and again!
