Poetry Friday - Katy Perry Roar!

Today's Poetry Friday round-up is hosted by Author Amok
Be sure to head on over to read other great poetry posts.

Today I *think* I'm being a little bit untraditional in my Poetry Friday post...I hope it's not against the rules. Forgive me if it is! In case you missed it, on Tuesday, I blogged about Mr. Tiger Goes Wild by Peter Brown again. I love this book and I'm so excited to be able to celebrate it. Make sure you check out my review and then also the prize pack giveaway that's open until Monday. While we've been roaring along with Mr. Tiger as we read the book, we've also been singing along with Katy Perry's new song, Roar. It seems timely that both are released around the same time because the messages in each definitely match. Mr. Tiger is tired of his proper life and breaks the mold in order to be true to himself. Katy expresses the same feeling of being held down or held back and finally speaking up for yourself in her song Roar. The lyrics make this a very inspirational song so I thought I would share it here as a poem. Enjoy!

"Roar"
I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Louder, louder than a lion
Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar

Now I’m floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down, but I got up
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
