Poetry Friday - I Wanna Grow Old With You

This week, Poetry Friday is at Catherine Johnson's blog. I happen to love the description of her blog: Poems for kids of all ages and dreamers everywhere. So great. Today I'm sharing a song and its lyrics. Recently, my husband and I went to see Blended with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. I love every more they have done together and Blended was another fast favorite. As I've mentioned, I'm off to Boston for my friend's wedding tomorrow so I have weddings on my mind. The Wedding Singer is another favorite Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore movie. The song Grow Old With You is so sweet and I wanted to share it here.

I Wanna Grow Old With You

I wanna make you smile whenever you're sad
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
All I wanna do is grow old with you

I'll get your medicine when your tummy aches
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks
Oh it could be so nice, growing old with you

I'll miss you
Kiss you
Give you my coat when you are cold

Need you
Feed you
Even let ya hold the remote control

So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink
Put you to bed if you've had too much to drink
I could be the man who grows old with you
I wanna grow old with you

I especially love the 3rd and 4th stanzas and how there are two short lines and then a longer line. It makes me think about how important it is to vary sentences and wonder how I can be more conscious of doing this in my own writing. Thanks for checking in!
