What I Think: I don't review many board books here, especially books for babies but these are too adorable and I'm happy to review them. My cousin had a baby in August and it's exciting to be back in baby mode...just a little bit. I'm loving that Peanut and Little Bean are 6 and 3 now but I do think fondly of their baby days.
These books have great photos of babies and focus on one theme throughout. The text is lyrical, rhyming along from page to page making these wonderful books to read to babies for them to have exposure to that sing-song-ness of your voice.
I distinctly remember being pregnant with Peanut and reading aloud from James and the Giant Peach because it happened to be a book I was reading and enjoying at the time and I wanted him to hear my voice reading even though he was still snuggled in my belly. When I was pregnant with Little Bean, we were reading so much to Peanut that I knew Little Bean was able to listen to me every night, reading away. I'm often reminding people of the power of reading aloud and audiobooks even. Children are able to listen at a higher reading level than they can read so we need to take advantage of exposing them to higher level reading by reading aloud to them or offering them audiobook experiences. I completely feel this way about reading to babies. There are books like Eat  and Reach that are wonderful examples of baby level books to read but I vote for reading anything to babies. One of my friends who had a baby over the summer told me he was reading the Wall Street Journal to his infant...and why not? Snuggle time, the baby gets to hear your voice, mom or dad gets to read something they want to read. I think it's great to have a balance of these cute little board books and more advanced reading aloud as well!
