It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 12/10/12

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: Yay! I finished Splendors and Glooms, Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes AND What Came From the Stars. Phew. It feels good to be done with all of them. They were all interesting but my brain is kind of on overload and ready for something a little more fun and maybe not so fantastical or science fictional. I've got some ideas from tweeps now that I'm done with these.

Kellee Says: This was an interesting week for me filled with training, traveling and family. Reading has not been a priority, unfortunately, but I did get some books in. First, I continued my non-fiction reading with a biography of Suzanne Collins and The Story of Exploration and Discovery. Next, I got in the books I planned- Perfect Escape by Jennifer Brown, a fabulous road trip book that is different than any other that I've read, and Linnea in Monet's Garden by Christina Bjork which I loved as much as Jen had predicted I would. Finally, I did get some reading in while traveling. I was able to reread some favorite holiday reads in preparation for a post this week- The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry and The Shoemaker and the Elves by Grimm. I also read a small but powerful novel Strong Deaf by Lynn McElfresh which is about a girl growing up in a family where she just doesn't fit in.

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: Since it's winter (even though we don't have snow...yet) and Christmas is coming, it's time to snuggle in with my all-time favorite Christmas book: Dash and Lily's Book of Dares. Over the weekend I watched the movie Elf with Will Farrell. It's possibly my favorite holiday movie and cracks me up every time. Dash and Lily is different but with the same kind of zeal and love of the Christmas spirit that I adore. I have Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater to listen to on audio and then some fun suggestions for books to read from friends...I'm definitely in the mood for something realistic fiction and more light-hearted!

Kellee Says: I am still listening to Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett, but next to that I haven't decided what to read next. I have some choices to make - may call my sister to have her help me decide.

This Week's Reviews:
