It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 11/12/12

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Announcements:
The winner of This is Not a Drill by Beck McDowell is
Erica Beaton
Congratulations!!
Thank you again to Beck and Penguin for providing a copy of TiNaD for giveaway.

The Booker Award:
Thank you to Amy from Youthful Yogini for giving us The Booker Award!
(Not the prize, just a fun bloggy award!)

How the award works:
This is an author award, not technically a blog award. To accept it, we list five of our favorite books and pass it on to five other authors. We adjusted this and picked three books we both love and three authors we think are uber-deserving of The Booker Award. These books are the last three books we have both read and have given five stars to on GoodReads:
And these are three of our favorite blogging authors!

Pot-O-Gold Blogger Award:
Thank you to Christie from Write Wild for this fun blogger award!

How the award works:1. Say thank you to the person who gave it to you.
2. Write a post with the award and link to the person who gave you the award.
3. Award four bloggers this award and tell why each is a Pot-O-Gold! (If you receive this award more than once, you only have to forward it the first time.)
4. Share four simple things about yourself: 1-a time you had to exercise FAITH, 2-something you HOPE for, 3-something (or someone) you LOVE, and 4-a time  when you felt LUCK.

While we haven't received this particular award before, we have received other awards and have passed awards on before so we won't be passing this one along. But we will tell you a four simple things about us!

Jen:
1. I love everything that's the color yellow right now.
2. I spent hours shopping on Saturday all by myself - mainly because I needed winter clothes but also because I actually had time to and was completely on my own. It was a rare occasion and it was blissfully awesome.
3. I'm watching The Notebook right now...although I'm not a complete blubbering teary mess...yet.
4. Well, as I was thinking of  now I am a complete blubbery mess, it was inevitable. If you haven't read The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, you should, it's a beautiful love story.

Kellee:
1. The color yellow was my favorite color as a child because my blanket Lee Lee was yellow.
2. One of my favorite things to do alone is go to this park I found about 20 minutes away and read under the trees.
4. I have never seen or read The Notebook or any other Nicholas Sparks movie/book.
4. I know it is cliche, but the movie that always makes me a blubbery mess is Titanic. So much so that I have stopped watching it completely. Toy Story 3 really does me in too, but I love it too much to not watch it.

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I wanted last week to be a great reading week but it didn't end up entirely that way. I did enjoy listening to Eldest by Chrisopher Paolini and am more than halfway through...but I haven't finished yet. It's 20 CDs long! I did read Mary Amato's Please Write In This Book and...that's it. It was a sad week. I have read more of Amy Dominy's Audition and Subtraction but it was a busy week with lots of after school meetings which meant less reading.

Kellee Says: I did a mini-readathon of graphic novels this week. I read the first 4 books of the My Boyfriend is a Monster series and found them to be pretty good reads though I liked #1 and #4 the best- I will definitely get them for my classroom. I also read Dalen and Gole: Scandal in Port Angus by Mike Deas a fun sci-fi GN that will also find a nice home in my classroom. I'm still currently reading the final book in my readathon, The Year of the Beasts, but I hope to finish it before this post publishes.

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: The plan is to finish Eldest on audio this week and to be listening to a new book on my way to Las Vegas for NCTE! Yahoo! I'm off today for Veteran's Day so I plan to finish reading Audition and Subtraction and then to seriously, literally, and truly read What Came From the Stars. BUT, I'll bee off to NCTE on Thursday so who knows!

Kellee Says: I don't know how much I will read this week. Thursday starts NCTE!!! and although I always bring books to read, I hardly ever get any read. I do have a long plane ride, so that will help. We'll see what I get read next week. I'll also continue listening to Dark Life by Kat Falls, which I LOVE!, and I'll have to decide what to listen to next as I will probably finish it on the trip.
