A Bit of Me(Me) 9/17/11

We all leave our “footprint” on the world, in one way or another. In our daily lives, we each do something or are someone that makes the world a little better simply by being ourselves. Danielle from There's a Book created this wonderful, weekly meme to learn a bit more about bloggers in this blogging community we all have come to love. The idea is to share our lives outside of books. Each week a question will be posted. Your job is to answer in the following week’s “A Bit of Me(Me)”. You can link up here with your post that answers Danielle's questions from last week.

We understand that some of you are skeptical about putting yourself out there on the internet and completely respect that. If ever a questions is posed through this meme that you feel is too personal for your liking, feel free to post something else. We don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable with what they share and promise the kids will always be “kid-friendly”. Really, this is a primarily children’s and young adult site, you know?

So, let’s get started!

What was your favorite musical group in Junior High/ Middle School?

So for most people this will be a very easy question. For me it is not.  I was in middle school in a very influx time for music 1993-1996.  Also, I found that middle school was a time of finding myself in general and that included music.  If you'd asked me what music I liked in late elementary school through 6th grade, I would know exactly what to tell you: Janet Jackson, Boys II Men, SWV and All 4 One (I also LOVED the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song).   I remember choreographing a dance to "If" by Janet Jackson for my sister and I.  We spent HOURS putting it all together and I must say it was phenomenal.

Then in middle school, I started listening to more rock.  Found Nirvana and the rest of the grunge music in 1993, was mesmerized by Woodstock 94 in August of that year which introduced me to Nine Inch Nails and Green Day and loved Tom Petty's Wildflower CD when it came out in November 1994. For the rest of middle school (and to the present), this is where my music taste stayed and grew from.  Nine Inch Nails is still my favorite band and it all started in middle school.

But surprisingly in 9th grade I fell in love with Hanson.  I know- doesn't really seem to fit in with the rest of the music that I was listening too, but I just adored their music and them.  My sister and I plastered our walls in Hanson posters.  Now, I also started listening to Korn, Sugar Ray, Goo Goo Dolls and Blink 182 about this same time.  Hanson, though, was a love that only someone who lives and breaths a music group can understand.  I cried when I saw them, I knew every word of every song, and I video taped all of their videos when they were on MTV's TRL.  Love.  True love.

Now, some of you might be giving me a hard time because of "Mmmbop".  I know.  But they had so many other songs and I hate that they were judged off of just that one.  These were 3 young kids (17, 14, 12) who wrote all their own lyrics and music and played instruments- that is just plain impressive!  And they are still around believe it or not and you would probably like their music.

In 2001 they left Def Jam Records, who wanted them to continue being the pop group that they'd been, so that they could have more creative freedom.  One of my favorite games ever in college was playing a Hanson song, make someone admit that they like it, then telling them it was Hanson and watching their reaction.  You should look them up.

So, come on and admit to me your middle school music guilty pleasure- comment below :)

Now, your turn! Link up below and tell everyone “A Bit of You!"

Next week’s A Bit of Me(Me) will be hosted by Danielle at There's a Book where she will provide the link-up and the next question for the following week. Thanks everyone! See you next week!

Next Week’s Question (link-up with your answer at Danielle’s site): What childhood toy, blanket, stuffed animal, etc. do you still have and cherish?

Have a question to add? We love suggestions! Just leave them in the comments and I’ll share them with Danielle so we can think about adding them in as we go! Also, feel free to grab either of the buttons for your own “A Bit of Me(Me)” post (or create your own), but make sure to link back to There’s A Book. (You can also resize these down to a smaller size if you’d like.)
