A Bit of Me(Me) 9/10/11

Thank you Crystal at I Totally Paused for hosting A Bit of Me(Me) this week and thank you also to Danielle at There's a Book for creating this meme!

As for this week's question....

What is your fall favorite? Share a fall recipe, activity, memory, or any other fall favorite!

Fall is the busiest time of the year for me and most teachers because it is the beginning of the school year. Because of that, most of my fall favorites have to do with teaching. I think my favorite memory would have to be the 1st nine weeks of my 1st year of teaching when I realized it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I started teaching in 2006 and at that point I'd been working at a retail pharmacy for 7 years and as a pharmacy tech for the last 5 of those years. I just want to say that a pharmacy tech is one of the most thankless jobs in the world! They get paid horribly, get not credit for all of the work they do (the pharmacist gets paid a lot and the techs do most of the work), and they get yelled at for so many things that are out of their control. So, needless to say, it wasn't the best job so I wasn't ever very thrilled to go to work. But then I started teaching. I never thought that I'd have a job where I actually wanted to wake up in the morning to go to work, but teaching was just that. I loved being at work!

Now, let's be honest. I was TERRIFIED to start the year. I had a literature degree, had never student taught, had just started my master's in education, so truly, I didn't know what I was doing. But then the students came in... and everything seemed fine. I knew that this was where I was supposed to be. What a phenomenal feeling and I hope everyone gets to experience it at some point. That first nine weeks was some of the scariest, most stressful days of my life, but it was all for something I knew was worth it.

Now, share with me one of your favorite fall memories or tell me about when you started teaching.

Happy fall everyone!
