Last Week's Adventures:
Last week I finished reading Ann Braden’s upcoming novel Opinions and Opossums and it is sooooooooo good! I also read more of Welcoming the Unwelcome and started listening to Pilar Ramirez and the Escape from Zafa by Julian Randall.

This Week's Adventures:

I’m about halfway through Pilar Ramirez and the Escape from Zafa so I’ll continue to listen to that. I also got a ton of Celtic mythology books from the library. One is a middle grade novel so I’m really interested in that but also in exploring the others as well. I’m all stocked up for winter break reading…our break starts on Thursday!

Last Week's Adventures:
I read more of Welcoming the Unwelcome and I read some of The Beginner’s Guide to Runes as I’m waiting for my Celtic mythology books to come in at the library. At NCTE, I was able to get an ARC of Ann Braden’s book Opinions and Opossums and I am about halfway through. It’s so great!

This Week's Adventures:

This week I’m sure I’ll finish Opinions and Opossums and I have an ARC of Grounded by Aisha Saeed, S.K. Ali, Huda Al-Marashi, and Jamila Thompsons-Bigelow that I’m looking forward to reading. I’ll continue reading Welcome the Unwelcome and exploring The Beginner’s Guide to Runes.

Last Week's Adventures:
Guess what…I didn’t read like I thought I would. I am savoring Welcoming the Unwelcome by Pema Chodron, her words seem to always be exactly what I need when I read them.

This Week's Adventures:

This week I’m sure I’ll read more of Welcoming the Unwelcome and I’ve been talking to a friend about my Irish and Welsh heritage which has encouraged me to explore Celtic mythology. So far I’ve been reading things I’ve found online but I think I’d like to also explore a book, especially a book for kids.

I had every intention of reading last week…but my brain needed a break!

This Week's Adventures:

This week I plan on continuing listening to A Snake Falls to Earth and then I have Opinions and Opossums by Ann Braden and Grounded by Aisha Saeed, Huda Al-Marashi, Jamila Thompsons Bigelow, and S.K. Ali to read from NCTE. Both are due out in May 2023 and look amazing!

Last Week's Adventures:
Last week I FINALLY finished reading The Stormrunner. I loved the whole thing but I especially love how things came together at the end. I also read more of Welcoming the Unwelcome and have started listening to A Snake Falls to Earth. I need to unpack my suitcase and look closely at the books I picked up from NCTE! I’m excited for that!

This Week's Adventures:

This week I’d like to listen to more of A Snake Falls to Earth and continue reading Welcoming the Unwelcome and then I’ll explore my NCTE finds. I’m looking forward to a quiet week after a day of school and parent-teacher conferences.

Last Week's Adventures:
Last week I finished listening to Fahrenheit 451 and then listened to The Last Human by Lee Bacon. I started listening to Matthew McConaughey’s memoir Greenlights. I also finished reading Dear Writer, Are You Intuitive? by Becca Syme and Susan Bischoff and read some of The Stormrunner.

This Week's Adventures:

My plan is to finish listening to Greenlights and to read more of Welcoming the Unwelcome. Anything by Pema Chodron I really enjoy reading slowly. I’ll read more of The Stormrunner this week, I’m determined to finish it soon. I’m also off to NCTE this week so we’ll see what I read. Hopefully I pick up something fabulous while I’m there! Will I see YOU there?!

Last Week's Adventures:
This week I took some time to replenish as a reader and did some different reading. I got a new book from Pema Chodron called Welcoming the Unwelcome that I have been reading slowly. I read the first chapter twice this week and let myself really soak it in. I’ve read a little of Justina Blakeney’s book The Bohemians and I also read two Zentangle books. Finally, I’m halfway into Dear Writer, Are You Intuitive? by Becca Syme and Susan Bischoff.

This Week's Adventures:

I’ll get back to listening to Fahrenheit 451 this week and will read more of Welcoming the Unwelcome and I’m sure I’ll finish Dear Writer, Are You Intuitive? It’s been really nice to change it up a bit and explore some nonfiction that nourishes me as a human outside of my teaching life…while it still makes its way into my teaching life!

Last Week's Adventures:
Last week I finished listening to Amari and the Night Brothers and re-listened to Anthropocene Reviewed. You know how sometimes you love a book so much that it’s hard to let it go? I just needed to listen to John Green’s words again.

This Week's Adventures:

I’m still reading The Storm Runner and will be listening to Fahrenheit 451 because one of the groups picked it for our dystopian book clubs and I’m fairly certain I’ve read it before…but it’s been since high school so rereading it makes sense! I also have two books by Justina Blakeney from the library to explore for some creative fun.

Last Week's Adventures:
I stalled a bit with my reading. Officially. I read a little of The Storm Runner and listened to a little of Amari and the Night Brothers. That’s where I am. A little bit of progress.

This Week's Adventures:

This week I hope you make better progress. Life ebbs and flows, right? It’s the end of the quarter and narratives were due last week and I had my observation…so I’m giving myself grace and I know I’ll pick back up soon. I hope y’all are doing well!

Last Week's Adventures:
Last week I finished Song for a Whale and I completely LOVED it. I worked with students who were deaf and hard of hearing for ten years and they will always be close to my heart so reading this book was awesome. This writing was amazing. I also listened to John Green’s Anthropocene Reviewed and absolutely loved it. I liked the format of the book and how he wrote about his life through essays about humans. So great. I also read Anna Quindlen’s Write For Your Life and enjoyed how she talks about her love of writing and the importance of it.

This Week's Adventures:

I’m behind on The Storm Runner by J.C. Cervantes. I just need to sit down and read it…which shows how much I depend on audiobooks to get my reading in. I started listening to Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston and I’m intrigued by it so far.

Last week I finished listening to A Thousand Questions which was so good and then I started listening to Song for a Whale and I’m obsessed. I was a hearing itinerant teacher for ten years and since then have had deaf and hard of hearing students in my classes so it’s such a wonderful book to reconnect with that part of my life. I also pause The Storm Runner so I could read They Call Her Fregona and it was so good. I’ll be sharing a few book talks at NCTE’s next Build Your Stack event this week on Wednesday, October 12th. You can find more information here.

This Week's Adventures:

This week I’ll continue listening to Song for a Whale and then I have The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green waiting for me on audio when I’m done. I’ll also get back to The Storm Runner and The Literacy Studio by Ellin Oliver Keene just came in and I’m excited to explore it as well.

Last Week's Adventures:
I am on a huge audiobook roll! I finished listening to This Is Our Rainbow and it is such an awesome collection! Definitely recommend. I also listened to You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson, Shuri by Nic Stone, and Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. I have to say I was not prepared for Cemetery Boys to have me freaking out the way it did. It was phenomenal and You Should See Me in a Crown was fabulous as well. I feel super lucky to be able to share such amazing books with students. Most days I find myself marveling at how far books have come from when I was a kid in the 80’s.

Although I adore all the newly published books, I did also decide to listen to Jonathan Livingston Seagull this week because I’ve noticed birds popping up for different reasons and it’s a book my dad recommended to me when I was young.

Our school participates in Battle of the Books and I’ve already read some of the books we have on our list but I also listened to two picture books: Above the Rim by Jen Bryant and Unspeakable by Carole Boston Weatherford. I’ve started Twins by VarĂan Johnson for BOB as well.

This Week's Adventures:

I’m making progress with The Storm Runner by J.C. Cervantes still and plan to finish listening to Twin. After Twins, I plan to read Mac Undercover and A Thousand Questions by Saadia Faruqi (also on our BOB list). Happy reading!

Last Week's Adventures:
This week I finished That Way Madness Lies and then I cruised through a few more audiobooks! I read Pax which I had never read before and it was so good. And then I also listened to Remarkably Bright Creatures which I absolutely loved. I also was able to listen to The Incredibly Dead Pets of Rex Dexterity which was an entertaining mystery.

I’m still working on The Storm Runner and I’m really loving it but reading a physical book for sure is harder for me than audiobooks.

This Week's Adventures:

I’m planning to continue reading The Storm Runner and then I downloaded This Is Our Rainbow and I’m excited to listen. I love anthologies and seeing what shorter texts I might be able to incorporate into my classes as mentor texts.
